Interview: Tila (Gentle BDSM Illustrator)

Tila is an artist based on Spain who likes drawing adorable works of art that incorporate gentle BDSM practices. Their work is very delicate, sweet and hits us right in the feels X3

We had the amazing opportunity to interview them, and here's everything that we asked!

1) How did you start drawing gentle BDSM?

I can’t really draw a line and say “here” because I think that it all started when I got into anime, specifically yaoi. When I first started drawing NSFW, it used to be yaoi and it took me years to understand that what I liked about that content was the idea of men being submissive. Thanks to some research and speaking with some friends that were in the BDSM community, I realized that I was into soft femdom. That's when my gentle BDSM journey started as an artist

(and person). Since then, I’ve been looking for gentle femdom creators and inspirations :-D.

2) What body part or object is most interesting to you, to study for your art?

Boobs!!!!!! I’ll NEVER get tired of drawing boobs. Something about its squishiness and softness makes me feel so much comfort…

3) What is your preferred color palette, when you work in color?

Orange-ish, warm palettes and highlights. The plus of combining both is that it gives the final piece a super cozy and intimate feeling, exactly what I look for in NSFW content.

4) Do you usually spend hours sketching before doing the line work, or do you like going forward with just minimal preparation?

I would say both? What I always do is, before sketching, I prepare a whole reference board of the characters I’m planning to draw. Then, the idea can be proceeded in two different ways: spontaneously (my favorite), where I already have an idea in mind and I sketch it on a notebook, then I do it digitally; get inspired thru nsfw references to get an idea of what exactly I want to draw. I pick a few NSFW pictures with different poses or themes and I try to work on it to create something.

5) Is there something that inspires you while making your art?

I would say erotic artists and games/anime in general. I like to borrow the intimate scent of sex scenes drawn by old erotic artists and mix it with nowadays techniques and media. I wish to become the Mihály Zichy or Paul Emile Becat of modern entertainment! hehe

6) Which software and hardware (i.e., a drawing tablet) do you use to produce your art?

I work with an iPad Pro 12.9 and I use Clip Studio Paint and Procreate :-P. I usually use Procreate to sketch the ideas and CSP for the rest.

7) Tell us a bit more about your OCs! Which ones are your favorites?

Waahh! well, first of all, for those who are reading and don’t know my OCs, you can find them here. Now, my favs? …hmm it’s really hard because I love all of them T_T but I would say Julio, Mei, Violet & Chalk and Jack!!! The first OCs that were created were Sei, Julio and Jaleck.

Back in the day they used to be the typical yaoi triangle thing, but I got sick of it and decided to give it a twist and make it more realistic. Also, it’s interesting how gentle BDSM has affected my work because almost every character is into it. Mei and Jaleck used to be a soft femdom couple thing, Meredith is a full-time dom and Julio and Sei have a maledom dynamic.

And, well, since I don’t know what else to say, I’ll give a bit of extra info of each one of them:

  • Julio was born after a high school crush I had. He looked almost the same, had the same aura.

  • Mei is literally my type of woman. Her personality and body-type are top tier for me.

  • Sei was born being a dumb sub and became a cold brat switch. At this point I think I only keep drawing him so he can dominate Julio.

  • Jaleck and Dorota are characters I basically used as trauma dumping.

  • Cotton and Violet & Chalk were made for trans representation. All OCs I had at the moment were cis so I needed something fresh and realistic.

  • Ernesto is based on one of my favorite actors, Javier Bardem, more specifically in the movie No Country for Old Men, but decided to make him peruvian cause it’s a country that calls my attention.

  • Jack and Meredith were born because I love to draw furries, they are super fun, so I used one of my favorite dynamics for them: drunk mom taking care of hyperactive dumb kid.

I actually have more original characters but they don’t have enough info yet. Overall, what I look for in my OCs is representation of different cultures, genders and sexualities with a part of myself. I consider that someone’s OCs is a representation of a part of them or their lives, and I can confirm it with my babies haha.

8) What do you enjoy the most about gentle BDSM?

Mm…I’d say pegging, pleasure control, praising and body worship. Playing with someone’s pleasure is exciting :-P hehe.

9) What were the most positive interactions you have had with the gentle BDSM community?

A few people messaged me saying that thanks to my art they finally got the guts to get into pegging or into soft femdom in general. It made me super happy because I had never imagined that my art could encourage people to get into something they were afraid of? It’s beyond what I expected and I really appreciate those comments. Being aware that my art can help others in their sex life makes me feel accomplished and I’m really thankful for it :’-)

10) If someone wants to support your work financially or commission you, how can they do it?

You can support me on Patreon and Gumroad :-D. To commission me, all my info is on my carrd (commissions openings are announced on my twitter!) If you have any question, feel free to e-mail me at milkytila@gmail.com.

Thanks a lot for the support <3
